Fancy Gap has developed solid lodging options for Parkway travelers, from campgrounds and cabins directly on the Blue Ridge Parkway to motels near the I-77 exit. Nearby towns — Galax, Hillsville, and Mount Airy — expand the choices within a 15-30 minute drive.

The area does not have large hotels or resort-style accommodations. What you'll find are smaller, locally-owned options that put you close to the Parkway and the surrounding countryside.

  • Fancy Gap / Blue Ridge Parkway KOA

    Voted Virginia Campground of the Year in 2025. Offers RV sites, tent camping, and cabins ranging from basic to a 3-bedroom lodge sleeping 10. Amenities include a pool, stocked fishing pond, playground, and camp store. Pet-friendly options available. Located just off the Parkway via I-77 Exit 8.

  • Fancy Gap Cabins & Campground

    Located directly on the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 202.5. Choose from motel rooms, camping cabins, full hook-up RV sites, or tent sites. On-site camp store, propane fill station, and bath house. Open April through early November. Direct Parkway access makes this a convenient base.

  • Cabin Rentals

    Additional cabin rentals are scattered through the mountains around Fancy Gap, available through vacation rental platforms. These range from rustic structures to fully-appointed vacation homes with mountain views.

  • Motels

    A few motels operate near the I-77 exit, serving travelers passing through. These tend to be straightforward, no-frills accommodations convenient for overnight stops.

Nearby Towns

Hillsville

About 15 minutes north via US-52 or I-77. Several motels and a few chain options. The closest town with consistent lodging availability. Also offers restaurants and basic services.

Galax

About 15 minutes west via US-58. A mix of motels and some bed-and-breakfast options. Good base for exploring the New River Trail and the music heritage of the region.

Mount Airy, NC

About 25-30 minutes south via US-52 or I-77. The largest selection of lodging in the area, including several chain hotels, motels, and bed-and-breakfasts. More dining and entertainment options than the Virginia towns.

  • Seasonal demand

    Fall color season — typically mid-October — brings more visitors to the area. Accommodations may fill during peak weekends. Summer weekends also see increased traffic along the Parkway.

  • Services in Fancy Gap

    Fancy Gap itself has limited dining and services. If staying nearby, plan to drive to Hillsville, Galax, or Mount Airy for meals and supplies, or bring provisions.

  • Elevation and weather

    Fancy Gap sits near 3,000 feet elevation. Nights can be cool even in summer. Winter weather occasionally affects travel and may close the Parkway. Check the NPS road status before planning a Parkway drive. Lodging at lower elevations in Mount Airy offers a milder climate.

  • Connectivity

    Cell service and internet access vary in rural and mountainous areas. If reliable connectivity matters, confirm availability when booking.
